Single row tapered roller bearing
Tapered roller bearings are separable bearings, with both the inner and outer rings having tapered raceways. These bearings are classified into single-row, double-row, and four-row tapered roller bearings based on the number of rows of rollers. Single-row tapered roller bearings can withstand radial loads and axial loads in a single direction. When the bearing is under radial load, an axial component force will be generated, so another bearing capable of withstanding the opposite axial force is needed to balance it.
Tapered roller bearings are radial thrust rolling bearings with tapered rollers as rolling elements. They come in two types: small taper angle and large taper angle. Small taper angle bearings primarily bear combined radial and axial loads, with radial loads being dominant. They are often used in pairs, installed in opposite directions, and the inner and outer rings can be installed separately. Radial and axial clearances can be adjusted during installation and use. Large taper angle bearings primarily bear combined axial and radial loads, with axial loads being dominant. They are generally not used alone to bear pure axial loads, but when paired (with the same-name ends facing each other), they can be used to bear pure radial loads.
The axial load capacity of a single-row tapered roller bearing depends on its contact angle, specifically the raceway angle of the outer ring. A larger angle results in a greater axial load capacity. Single-row tapered roller bearings are the most commonly used type. Small-sized double-row tapered roller bearings are used in the front wheel hubs of automobiles. Tapered roller bearings are widely used in the automotive, rolling mill, mining, metallurgical, and plastics machinery industries.
